Shamama, also known as Jolana Bishay, invites your spirited, wonder-filled inner child out to play! A fierce protector of our tender souls, she'll laugh, dance and shout to banish your inner-critic, heal your rejection trauma, and make space for all parts of you to rock out with glee. Bring on your sacred goofy, geeky, shy and saucy sides--all are welcome!
Starting from when she was a wonder-filled child herself, she was dancing. From purple tutued ballerina to lindy hopping, belly dancing teenager to salsa mama and Shamanic Cheerleader, she's always found abundant joy in movement. She's a veteran of school and community stages, was a professional actor with Bay Area-based children's theater company Theatre of All Possibilities, and moonlighted as a go-go dancer on the TV show American Dreams. The last several years she's been a facilitator with Challenge Day, leading workshops across North America aimed at overcoming alienation and social oppression in schools, bringing youth together across lines of difference and empowering them to create the life of their dreams. Currently, her main focus is being a full-time one-woman pep squad for her son and husband. Cheering on the divine in them is her heart's true delight.
